How We Work

Sean takes a collaborative approach to garden design, one that is flexible and responsive to a client's requirements. The practice designs and installs gardens of varying size and style from large country estates to small urban spaces.

There are 4 key stages:

  • Initial site visit and client meeting to discuss needs and wants. This is followed by a site analysis and the creation of a base plan. A second client meeting will establish a more precise brief and budget.

  • Conceptual drawings of garden layout and plant themes are proposed and discussed for approval, and any necessary design revisions made.

  • Once the design is approved, a Master Plan is developed. This includes detailed drawings of all hardscape features and planting plans and schedules.

  • Consultation prior to installation of the garden. Arrangements for appointment of contractors, purchasing of plants and other materials such as furniture.

Sean Swallow Garden Design works closely with landscape contractors, architects and other specialists to handle the garden design from initial concept to completion.

"What you will have, I hope, is a garden more beautiful than you had anticipated, with less care than you had expected, and costing only a little more than you had planned." - Thomas Church (landscape designer) 1955
